Innovation Driving Ireland's Transition From Medtech Supplier To Strategic Partner

Executive Summary

With cost-conscious medtech companies looking increasingly towards Asia and South America to set up their facilities, it may come as a surprise to some that Ireland remains one of the top medical device manufacturing hubs in the world, exporting around €12.6bn of medtech goods per year. It's not cost, though, that keeps Ireland competitive against these other countries but its innovation capabilities - in which the government has made significant and judicious investments since the early 2000s. Deirdre Glenn, Enterprise Ireland's Director of Lifesciences, spoke to Medtech Insight about how the country successfully grew its medtech sector to become a community of innovators and strategic medtech partners.
