Executive Summary

Mayo Clinic is conducting a year-long study to assess whether home monitoring of 200 seniors with chronic disease using GE Healthcare/Intel's Health Guide remote patient monitoring technology will reduce hospitalization and emergency visits. Patients will measure their vital signs and respond to disease-specific questions each day, and the data will be reviewed by a clinical care team working with their primary physician, with the aim of identifying early signs of clinical deterioration. GE and Intel entered an agreement in April 2009 to invest $250 million over five years to develop home-based technologies for seniors and chronically ill patients; GE markets the Intel Health Guide system under the deal (1"The Gray Sheet" April 6, 2009)
