Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.) drop their hold on Acting FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach's nomination to the permanent post Aug. 24 following the agency's decision to make Barr Pharmaceuticals' Plan B emergency contraceptive available over-the-counter for women age 18 and older (1"The Gray Sheet" Aug. 7, 2006, p. 17). However, at least one Republican is said to be considering a hold in opposition to the Plan B decision, according to a Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee staffer.
