Executive Summary
Federal government is cleared to pursue reimbursement for Medicare payments that went to treat injuries allegedly suffered by silicone breast implant claimants involved in a 1995 class action settlement valued at $4.2 bil. The Department of Justice filed suit in Birmingham district court in March 2000 to recover its expenditures; however, the court later dismissed the complaint, in part due to the government's inability to identify specific patients.
