Sleep apnea device producer Inspire Medical raises $14.5mm in Series C financing

Executive Summary
TGap Ventures has joined the investor syndicate for Inspire Medical Systems Inc. (mild neurostimulation implants for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea), which completed a $14.5mm Series C financing. Returning shareholders including Medtronic, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, US Venture Partners, Synergy Life Science Partners, and GDN Holdings also participated. The money will support the Inspire upper airway stimulation system. Funds will specifically be used for clinical trial patient follow-up (patient recruitment and device implants were recently completed in the STAR multi-center trial); US regulatory filings; and commercial expansion in Europe, where the device received the CE Mark in 2010.
