India Proposes To Develop At Least 10 Percent Of Global Innovative Drugs

India has a government proposal in the works that would have it support innovative pharmaceutical development in the country at the rate of up to $2 billion a year over the next decade. The head of the Department of Pharmaceuticals revealed at a seminar a Vision 2020 white paper is being drafted that would propose $1 billion to $2 billion annually to promote drug discovery. The goal is to have India be the source of as much as a fifth of the world's research & development drug business by 2020 and responsible for at least 10 percent of innovative drugs.
