FDA aminophylline/theophylline cream evaluation

Executive Summary

Could lead to warning letters or product recalls of tropical creams containing the prescription asthma medications aminophylline and theophylline if the products are found to pose health risks to consumers, FDA states. Creams formulated with aminophylline and/or theophylline are said to "smooth" hips and thighs and reduce inches from the waist and thigh areas by marketers including Smooth Contours and Mastey de Paris. FDA is analyzing several creams that contain the substances to determine the ingredients and their concentrations. FDA initiated the evaluation in response to consumer questions and recent publicity surrounding the introduction of the products, the agency says
