Executive Summary
ANALGESIC SPEED OF ONSET EXPRESSED AS TIME RANGE RATHER THAN "FAST" was preferred by FDA's Arthritis Advisory Committee and members of the Nonprescription Drug Advisory Committee at a meeting in Gaithersburg, Md. March 25. Summarizing a discussion of how analgesics should be labeled with regard to speed of pain relief, Arthritis Committee Chair Michelle Petri, MD, Johns Hopkins University, said: "I think the panel is in agreement that [it] does not want to use the word `fast,' that we prefer a number" to describe onset of "meaningful" pain relief.
