OTC NICOTINE REPLACEMENT THERAPY PART OF 5.8 MIL. 1997 QUIT ATTEMPTS in the U.S., according to estimates in study by Saul Shiffman, PhD, University of Pittsburgh, and SmithKline Beecham researchers published in the most recent issue of Tobacco Control, an independent quarterly journal. The estimate is based on extrapolation of A.C. Nielsen data from March through May 1997 showing 112,000 new purchases per week of SmithKline's Nicorette gum and NicoDerm CQ patch and McNeil Consumer Products' Nicotrol patch.
