Philips has grabbed the number one spot as the top medtech patent applicant in the EU, filing 712 medical device-related patent applications with European Patent Office in 2015. The Dutch group beat Johnson & Johnson, who came second with 497 applications, and Medtronic, who came third with 411 applications (see Table 1).
