ZipLine makes former Peak leader John Tighe CEO

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

ZipLine Medical, a California company developing noninvasive surgical skin closure technology called PRELOC, has appointed John Tighe president and CEO. Mr Tighe previously headed up PEAK Surgical, a specialist in surgical incision devices, which Medtronic acquired for $105m last year (www.clinica.co.uk, 8 July 2011). Before joining PEAK in 2006, Mr Tighe was senior vice-president and general manager of another surgical firm, Arthrocare. ZipLine's PRELOC technology can be used in procedures including caesareans, laparotomy and pacemaker implantation; the firm estimates that it could address a $4.2bn worldwide market. Its ZipLine 15 and ZipLine 3 products are both classed as Class I, exempt devices so are subject to the least stringent regulatory control. Meanwhile, Campbell-based ZipLine closed a $5m Series B fundraising round, taking total investment in the company to $6m.
