This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Privately-held orthopaedics firm Small Bone Innovations (SBi) has appointed a new president and CEO, former Orthofix executive Michael P Simpson. He succeeds Anthony Viscogliosi, SBi's CEO and chairman since 2005 and a founder of the company; Mr Viscogliosi will now become executive chairman. Mr Simpson worked for Orthofix, a unit of Orthofix International, for nine years, most recently as division president, where he was responsible for global development and distribution, with full P&L responsibility. Mr Simpson is no relation to Michael J Simpson, who was SBi's president and chief operating officer from 2005-2008. Morrisville, Pennsylvania-based SBi has seen a compound annual growth rate of 27% during 2006-2011. The firm is targeting the $3.3bn small bone and joint market with products including its STAR total ankle replacement system.
