IVD specialist Axis-Shield has rejected a second takeover bid made by Alere within a month. Alere has now formally offered to acquire the Anglo-Nordic firm, but has not budged from its original bid of £230m ($375m), or 460p per share, which it first tabled in July (www.clinica.co.uk, 6 July 2011).
