Executive Summary
Chronic pain treatment firm NeuroTherm is expanding into the spinal surgery market by acquiring two product lines from minimally-invasive surgery specialist ArthroCare. The first, Parallax, is used during vertebroplasty, a procedure where bone cement is injected into the vertebra to relieve the pain of spinal fractures. ArthroCare acquired the product with its $28m purchase of spinal company Parallax in 2004 (www.clinica.co.uk, 31 October 2003). The second product, Contour, is designed for cavity creation, a step in the vertebroplasty process.
