Executive Summary
Italy has approved the use of electronic processing of applications for licences to advertise healthcare products and services. The main benefit of the change will be to hasten the process, according to Dr Romano Marabelli, head of the department of innovation at the general directorate for pharmaceuticals and medical devices (DGFDM). The decision was taken after a three-month trial of the e-processing system, which concluded at the end of December 2010. A statement posted on the health ministry website on 5 January to announce the decision also notes that a number of procedural changes have been made to the system since then.
