Executive Summary
Australia's in vitro diagnostics (IVD) industry association, IVD Australia, has grown to over 60 members since it was established 16 months ago in September 2009. The Parramatta, New South Wales-based association, headed by Peter Harman (CEO), described the milestone as confirming that the association “really does speak for the IVD sector in Australia when raising issues with government and the Therapeutics Good Administration [the national healthcare products regulator]”. Almost a half of all general practice visits in Australia entail an IVD test, according to the results of a survey by the Australian Institute for Health & Welfare (AIHW), published last month (www.clinica.co.uk, 8 December 2010).
