Executive Summary
Ultrasound specialist TechniScan Medical Systems has elected Joe Pepper chairman of its board of directors. Dr Pepper is already a member of the firm's board, and currently also acts as a consultant for medical device start-ups. He was previously CEO of automated breast ultrasound specialist U-Systems, and held the same position at OEC Medical Systems, which was acquired by GE Healthcare in 1999 (www.clinica.co.uk, 16 August 1999). He also worked for The BOC Group as president of its Ohmeda Medical Devices subsidiary. Dr Pepper replaces previous chairman Ken Hungerford, who held the position since 2009, when Salt Lake City, Utah-based TechniScan became a publicly listed company. The firm's flagship product, the Svara Warm Bath Ultrasound, is designed to improve patient comfort during breast ultrasound procedures. TechniScan is currently in the process of applying for 510(k) clearance for the product from the US FDA.
