UK's increasing obesity surgery rates still far short of demand

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Despite a significant rise in obesity surgery cases in the UK over the last decade, current access to the procedure still falls far short of demand, according to Healthier Weight, a leading UK provider in this area of healthcare. Weight-loss procedures in the NHS rose from 238 in 2000 to over 2,500 in 2007, totalling almost 7,000 operations between April 2000 and March 2008, the British Medical Journal (BMJ) reported last week.
