Philips grows clinical informatics portfolio with Israeli buy

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Philips is to boost its range of picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) by acquiring Israeli firm CDP Medical. Philips is to purchase the firm from its parent company, medical device distributor Medtechnica, for an undisclosed fee. The deal will see Petah Tikva-based CDP become part of Philips Healthcare’s patient care and clinical informatics business. CDP was founded in 2000 and has technology installed in 300 hospitals globally, with growth coming particularly in the Latin America region last year. Philips said the deal was complementary to its own iSite PACS technology. Earlier this year, Philips strengthened its clinical informatics business by purchasing Brazilian healthcare information system provider Tecso Informatica. The CDP acquisition comes less than a week after Philips delved into the M&A market to secure the services of Shanghai Apex Electronics Technology, a Chinese manufacturer of ultrasound transducers (www.clinica.co.uk, 28 July 2010).
