KCI gains injunction against S&N wound therapy tech

Executive Summary

Kinetic Concepts (KCI) has won an injunction against Smith & Nephew regarding its Renasys EZ and Renasys Go negative pressure wound therapy (NWPT) systems in the UK. However, the patents court of the High Court of Justice has granted S&N the right to appeal, meaning the products stay on sale. In June, the court found that S&N’s Renasys systems infringed two KCI patents (www.clinica.co.uk, 25 June 2010). The dispute between the two firms dates back to 2007, when S&N bought BlueSky Medical, a NWPT specialist which was already embroiled in patent litigation with KCI (www.clinica.co.uk, 18 May 2007 and 11 August 2006).
