Executive Summary
Siemens has launched the SoftView enhanced chest imaging technology as an add-on to its digitial X-ray systems. The software is designed to improve the visibility of soft tissue structures in the lungs by automatically suppressing the ribs and collar bone, thereby improving the detection of lung nodules. This can also be done using dual energy technology but, unlike this technique, SoftView does not involve any additional radiation, Siemens says. The technology is now available in Europe, the US, Canada and Australia. It was originally developed by medical software specialist Riverain Medical (Miamisburg, Ohio), which will supply the product via Siemens. The companies also announced their partnership yesterday.
