Executive Summary
Bariatric surgery is to be provided at an NHS Scotland hospital for the first time from next month. The National Waiting Times Centre at the Golden Jubilee Hospital, in Clydebank, Glasgow, will initially carry out laparoscopic banding – it is scheduled to perform up to 60 procedures in 2010-11. The programme is expected to grow, and "may include laparoscopic gastric by-pass surgery at a future date", said the hospital's chief executive, Jill Young.
