Executive Summary
Patients implanted with either a drug-eluting or bare-metal stent have an elevated risk of death if they undergo non-cardiac surgery, a trial has shown. They are also at risk of non-fatal cardiac complications, including heart attacks and ischaemia. The dangerous period appears to last for at least two years after stenting.
