Executive Summary
Elscint (Israel) unveiled its newly cleared, all-purpose gamma camera, VariCam, at RSNA (Chicago, November 26th-December 1st). The dual-head, convertible geometry camera is able to perform whole-body scans, 360degrees SPECT and 180degrees cardiac SPECT scans. Elscint says the slip-ring mounting technology, borrowed from its Apex Helix dual-head camera, minimises preparation time and allows both detectors to be adjusted simultaneously at 90degrees orientation. The camera uses all-digital front-end electronics and a Pentium-based OS/2 operating system. It is compatible with both DICOM and Interfile 3.3.
