Executive Summary
The NHS Research and Development Strategy has been singled out by UK Health Secretary Stephen Dorrell to receive extra funds in 1996/7. The project's budget will be increased by £27 million ($42 million) to £436 million to "ensure that R&D prospers alongside patient care, enabling better healthcare solutions to be widely disseminated and implemented", says Mr Dorrell. Among special allocations to the new Health Authorities (which will be established in April next year) is £270 million for AIDS projects.
