Executive Summary
A PQS CT scanner from Picker International has been installed at the Nkana Mining Hospital in the northern region of Zambia. The scanner - the first sophisticated diagnostic imaging system ever available in Zambia - is expected also to be used by the surrounding countries of Zaire, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwee, Botswana, Namibia and Angola. Hospitals in these countries have to date been forced to rely heavily on South Africa for imaging facilities, using up valuable foreign exchange. The scanner will provide them with "a complete, comprehensive medical imaging capability", says Africa Health.
