US manufacturers are being encouraged to shift their export focus from the traditional markets of Europe, Japan and Canada to Latin America. Argentina, Mexico and Brazil are already among the US Department of Commerce's ten "big emerging markets". Speaking at the Institute of the Americas' Congress on Latin American Health Care in September, Victoria Kader, trade specialist at the US Department of Commerce, forecast that total US medical device exports to Latin America will top $1,000 million in 1995. They totakked $981 million in 1994, a 25% increase from 1991:
