This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Indigo Systems has introduced its Scitron FD60 X-ray scanner. The device is capable of scanning film up to a 4.2 optical density value, with "the spatial resolution required to capture the smallest mammographic microcalcification without any loss of information", the German company claims. Scitron FD60, which uses Carl Zeiss optics, has a 6000 element CCD and a patent-pending control unit. An electronic edge sensor detects the size and position of the film. The device is compatible with UNIX or PC systems, with a density resolution of 4,096 or 32,768 shades of grey.
