Executive Summary
Laparoscopic hernia repair leads to more complications than open surgery but quality of life is better and pain scores lower with MIS, according to early results from a UK trial. The results of the 125-patient randomised trial, co-ordinated by the Health Service Research Unit at the University of Oxford, contradict a St Bartholomew's Hospital (London) study published in The Lancet last year (vol 343, pp 1243-5).
