Lack of patients at root of Spanish dental problem

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Around 50% of the Spanish population do not go to the dentist, says Juan Schmidt, president of the dental sector at the Spanish industry association FENIN. While the number of dental practices in Spain has risen to some 15,000 in recent years, the number of patients has not increased. Orders to dental suppliers are therefore falling and payment delays worsening. "Those orders of boxes of 20 needles or 20 boxes of cement have disappeared," he says in an interview with FENIN, "and dentists are forced to order on a day-by-day basis."
