Executive Summary
Results of multicentre study of Spectranetics' 0.018 Prima laser guidewire are "encouraging", according to Professor RWR Simon of Kiel Medical University, Germany. The wire was able to cross total occlusions in 56% of patients. However, perforations occurred in almost a quarter of cases. The perforation led to tamponade in two patients when an angioplasty device was advanced into the free pericardial space.
