Executive Summary
Abiomed (US) has initiated a study to develop a laser-assisted tissue welding technique as an alternative to conventional suture tying in bladder augmentation procedures. A $100,000 grant from the NIH has been received for the project which will initially test two lasers and determine important factors for optimising the technology in urological applications. The next phase of the study will examine the chronic healing characteristic of the tissue repair.
