Spanish government sets stricter tenders agenda

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The Spanish government has been forced to stop direct tender contracts following a ruling by the European Commission. All public tenders for medical equipment in Spain must now appear in official publications, says the Spanish government's new tenders law, which will come into force on June 8th. It declares that only tenders below Pta 2 million ($16,000) will not require public announcement and can be awarded to suppliers directly. The law, published in the official journal of May 19th, confirms that tenders for medical supplies which exceed Pta 102,248,281 ($815,000) must also be published in the Official Journal of the European Communities.
