Executive Summary
Ceramic dental prostheses are becoming ever more popular as their disadvantages are overcome. Opening the annual convention of the German Society for Dental Prostheses and Materials, Prof Heinrich von Schwanewede said ceramic is less allergenic than other materials. The brittleness of the material, its greatest disadvantage, is being overcome by new developments and ceramic is much more workable than it used to be. Bridges, previously made out of a mixture of metal and ceramic, can now be made entirely out of ceramic, he said.
