Executive Summary
UK researchers have developed an active surgical dressing based on a common fungus and are now looking for commercial partners to bring a product to market. Dr Paul Hamlyn and colleagues at the British Textile Technology Group in Manchester in collaboration with the University of Wales, Cardiff, found that a mould which grows on bread, human faeces and horse dung triggered growth of fibroblasts - key cells in wound healing.
