Executive Summary
Some 547 new cases of AIDS were recorded in Spain in the first three months of 1995, according to Health Ministry figures. From January 1st, three more diseases were added to the list of AIDS-defining illnesses. Linked to an HIV-positive diagnosis, pulmonary tuberculosis, invasive carcinoma of the uterus neck and recurrent pneumonia represent 19% of the 5,686 cases recorded in 1994. The total number of AIDS cases recorded in Spain from 1981 to March 1995 is 31,221 and it is the principal cause of mortality in the 25-34 age group, representing 21% of male deaths and 15% of female deaths.
