Executive Summary
An estimated 2,000 operations were cancelled on May 8th because of a doctors' strike in Spain, claims the CESM medical union. Over 56,000 medical procedures were also suspended and some hospitals in Madrid have voted to continue the strike (see Clinica No 653, p 5). While a minimum service was maintained in Insalud hospitals, most GPs carried on almost as normal, says a report in El Pais. Surgery and radiology were the worst affected areas. CESM and fellow union the OMC's negotiations with Insalud had not reached agreement by the time Clinica went to press.
