Executive Summary
The increasing number of medical devices which are supplied through pharmacy-type outlets has prompted Australia's Therapeutic Devices Branch to distribute therapeutic device adverse incident reporting forms with the Schedule of Pharmaceutical Benefits. The Schedule is sent to around 45,000 pharmacists, doctors and hospital dispensaries throughout Australia. "Pharmacists are becoming a key link in ensuring the safe supply of many over-the-counter therapeutic devices," says the Australian Therapeutic Device Bulletin. These include dental products, syringes, catheters, condoms, contraceptive diaphragms, hearing aids, nebulisers, blood pressure monitors and diagnostic kits.
