Epiphyseal hip correction

Executive Summary
In the profile of British Technology Group published in Clinica No 640 the photograph on page 16 was not the epiphyseal hip as stated. The epiphyseal hip has been developed by Richard Field, a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at St Helier Hospital in Surrey, UK, and Neil Rushton, director of the orthopaedic research unit in Cambridge. It is intended to replace only that part of the femoral head which lies above the epiphyseal scar plate. The prosthesis is constructed using composite materials which closely match the stiffness pattern of the natural bone. Clinical trials on the acetabular component of the epiphyseal hip began in 1994. Clinica regrets any embarrassment caused to Mr Field by the error in the original article.
