Executive Summary
Transluminally-placed endovascular stent-graft prostheses are safe and effective for treating selected patients with descending thoracic aortic aneurysms, according to researchers in the US. Long-term evaluation of the technique is required, but results from a study at Stanford University School of Medicine, California, suggest that the procedure may be a less invasive and safer alternative to standard surgery (New England Journal of Medicine, December 29th).
