Almost one in four children in the US is infected by H pylori, the bacterium that has been linked to ulcers, gastric cancer and coronary artery disease. Previous research found only 5-15% of children to be infected but the new research, carried out by the Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, found that 17% of non-hispanic whites had antibodies to H pylori while prevalence was 40.1% among non-hispanic blacks. The average prevalence was 24.8%.
