Executive Summary

The National Defense Medical College of Japan and the Advanced Research Laboratory of Mitsubishi Electric have jointly developed a system for judging breast cancer. The system includes a photomicroscope which takes magnified pictures of cancerous growth and compares the images with resident data to classify it. In a 287-patient study, the researchers have shown that their device is 96% efficient at identifying intracanalicular fibroadenoma and 88% efficient at judging sieve-pattern tumour cancer, out of the possible twenty or so different kinds of breast cancer, reports Japan Medical Review.
