Executive Summary
Abiomed has been awarded a three-year grant for around $750,000 from the National Institute of Dental Research to develop a periodontal probe. The award, which is granted under the Small Business Innovative Research programme, represents the second and final NIH-funded phase. Abiomed will construct hand-held prototypes and conduct clinical studies to validate its performance, ease of use and reproducibility. On completion, Abiomed will seek to commercialise the product through its wholly-owned dental subsidiary, Abiodent.
