Executive Summary
A gene that could be responsible for 65% of Fanconi anaemia has been cloned by a multinational group of researchers. Fanconi anaemia is a recessive disease characterised by skeletal abnormalities, bone marrow failure and a predisposition to cancer. However, the gene does not resemble a tumour suppressor, says Hans Joenje of the Free University in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in a letter to Nature Genetics (November).
