Executive Summary
The US FDA has approved a Medtronic pacemaker lead designed for children and infants. The lead, which carries electrical impulses from the pacemaker to the heart, can be attached to the heart wall with a suture, unlike previous models which were attached with a sharp probe. The lead has been tested in infants and children since 1989. In the US, about 2,600 children receive pacemakers every year.
