Titanium implants were found to be far less likely to become infected post-operatively compared with implants made from stainless steel. The rate of infection for steel plates was 75% compared with 35% for titanium after 28 days under otherwise identical experimental conditions in an animal study, published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (September).
