Executive Summary
Medtronic (Japan) has produced a left-side dual-chamber pacemaker for its Thera "i-series" pacemaker family. The company claims that its product is the first that can be implanted on either side of the heart. Previously, cardiologists implanting pacemakers on the left side of the heart have turned the pacemaker over, but this has complicated lead-wrapping. The size of the pacemaker has also been reduced to fit the smaller Japanese body. The product is available in Japan for ¥.97 million ($18,410).
