Executive Summary
Three former executives of C R Bard have been sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment for conspiring to defraud the US FDA. David Prigmore, John Cvinar and Lee Leichter were convicted in August 1995 of unlawfully selling and distributing heart catheters which had not been approved by the FDA for human use (see Clinica No 669/70, p 19). Chief of the criminal division of the US Attorney's Office James Farmer says: "The prosecution ... sends a clear message to corporate officers across the United States about the consequences of such illegal conduct ... they risk significant personal punishment."
