UK study confirms importance of fibrinolysis in women

Executive Summary
Low fibrinolytic activity may play a part in female heart disease. The Northwick Park heart study found that low fibrinolytic activity was linked to ischaemic heart disease in women. The same study proved a link in men in 1993 but very few of the 695 of the women who enrolled in the 1970s have died of ischaemic heart disease. However, those that did had significantly lower fibrinolytic activity and higher blood pressure than those who remained alive.
