This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Smith & Nephew Endoscopy has launched MosaicPlasty its instrument system for repairing the articular cartilage of the knee. The system harvests cartilage and bone plugs from the non-weightbearing portion of the knee and inserts the plug into holes drilled in the lesions of the cartilage, a procedure known as autogenous osteochondral grafting or Mosaic Plasty. Smith & Nephew unveiled its system at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine meeting in Orlando, Florida, last month. Each year, 650,000 articular cartilage repairs are performed on the knee, in the US.
